The Return of the Green Monster

Once again, thanks for all of your support on yesterday's post. I haven't felt tired this morning, and mom and I talked about possible reasons last night. We're thinking that it could be emotional stress from the effort that went into gaining weight last week, and when I didn't gain any, I just "shut off". Anyway, I'm (hopefully) back on track and woke up feelin' great this morning!

I actually had a super yummy breakfast, it was so awesome that my sister wanted some, too! =D I made some corn grits, but instead of stirring in plain milk, I used our Aerolatte to whip the milk into a nice creamy, frothy cup of goodness and then stirred it into our grits. Then I microwaved each bowl for a little while so that the grits and the frothy milk would combine, put some butter in each bowl and voila! a simple, but fun brekkie! =P

I also tried a new cardio workout today.  Its bootcamp-style which I love, and only 30 minutes. Its not super hard, so its great if you're not used to the bootcamp style of workout. Anyway I enjoyed it, so here's the link:

Cardio Bootcamp:

http://www.exercisetv.tv/workout-videos/cardio/bootcamp-calorie-burn-1434

Post workout, I was feeling sweaty and thought that a smoothie sounded absolutely wonderful. Aaand we happened to have some fresh kale in our fridge, so I whipped up my favorite banana/coffee green monster. Here's a pic of it in all its ugly glory:

[caption id="attachment_369" align="alignnone" width="455" caption="I'm not pretty, but I taste goooooood!"][/caption]

Definitely not the most picturesque of smoothies, but probably one of my all-time favs! I've been drinking a lot of smoothies recently (like the one I posted about yesterday) because its so stinkin' hot here, but I've missed my green monsters!

Now, I have a couple of questions for ya'll:

What's your favorite warm-weather snack?

Smoothies or yogurt parfaits

Is there any topic that you would like me to post about on my blog?

I looved when Alex asked me why we're in Brasil and I got to do a post about that. Soo I was wondering if anyone else out there had a specific post that they would like to see on here. =D

Got to go now....school is calling.

Hope you have a great day!

New Stuff to Try

Wow!

I just want to thank you all for your super-sweet comments on Saturday's post!!!! =D You guys are great! I really love being here and seeing what God has in store for us in Recife!

So I didn't gain any weight this past week, but I also didn't lose any, so that's progress. I had increased my intake by about 500 calories last week, so this week I'll add another 400-500. I didn't want to go ahead and add 1000 calories last week for fear of making myself feel ill, and therefore decrease my determination to eat more. I figured that if I tried to add in too much too soon it might actually have a negative effect on my weight-gain efforts. Over the weekend, we bought some new snacks for me to try out so that I don't get bored eating the same things every day. One of them was a vitamin shake mix, which I would add to milk, and get a significant amount of calories without feeling like I stuffed myself after drinking it. Here's a pic:

VitaminaShake de Maçã, Banana e Mamão

I tried that one, its banana, apple and papaya flavored, and it was pretty decent. A little sweet for me, but you could taste the individual fruits and it didn't have a funny aftertaste or grittiness like the protein powder that I tried did. Also, its pretty low in sodium (only 21 mg) and has 15 percent of 7 different vitamins before I add the milk. Not too shabby. =D We also bought a peach-flavored shake to try out!

So today I have a massive amount of school to do, which is precisely why I'm blogging. =P Too tired to think US History or Algebra. Which brings me to another question, I've been sleeping early and not waking up at all in the night, but I'm still tired all of the time and want to go to sleep earlier than anyone else in the family, why is that? Just curious....it may have something to do with stress......or something else...I really don't know. =P

How was your weekend?

Mine was pretty good. We spent most of yesterday at home, relaxing, and then went to church and dinner last night. Saturday, I was alone at home most of the day, but then we once again had some hang-out time in the evening.

Well, I had better get going.....hope you all of a good Monday! =D

Why We're Here

First of all, I hope everyone's weekend is off to a great start!!!!

We bought a new printer yesterday, and look who decided he like the box that it came in:

=D

So yesterday, Alex asked me why me family's in Brasil. So, I thought I'd dedicate today's post to what we do here.

Since 2004, we've lived in Recife, Brasil, population of about 4 million, located on the northeaster coast of the country, about 9 degrees south of the equator. My parents are missionaries here, and originally came to help out with a children home located in one of the poorer areas of our city. While there, they made visits to families in the surrounding community and felt called by God to start work there. About 3 and a half years ago we went to the States on furlough, and when we came back, we began working in this community, called Dois Unidos.

Here's some pictures:

Food Bank

Soccer Project

Before/After of a house

Building a Church

Over the past 3 years, God has helped us build 25 houses, a church, operate a food bank and soup kitchen along with another church nearby, open a music studio, have activities for children in the community, and start a soccer project. We work with Brazilians, and have a couple of US work teams come every year to complete special projects. God is good and everything we do is because of Him. We're missionaries with South America Mission and have been for about 3 years.

I love living here! Its home to me! =D If any of ya'll have any more questions about us being here, feel free to ask them!!!! =D

Hope you have an awesome weekend!

God bless!!!!!

It's Friday!

Sorry about dropping off the face of the planet yesterday.....

School+an afternoon out with my mom= one tired chocoholic! =D

Anyway, I tried a new cardio workout yesterday! I've been doing PE through my homeschool program, and in order to not get bored by doing the same thing on a daily basis, I've been scouring the internet for good videos or routines. This one came off of ExerciseTV, which I happen to love, and its already 30 minutes long, which means that for the first time in probably 6 months I didn't do my 10 minute jump rope cardio workout! Here's the link:

Less is More Cardio:

http://www.exercisetv.tv/workout-videos/cardio/less-is-more-cardio-workout-1658#

It was a decent workout, pretty basic, but exactly what I needed in order to get a good cardio workout in without burning too many calories. And because I did this video, I got to eat even more yesterday....gaining weight while doing daily PE is tough work, folks! =P

So yesterday afternoon my mom and I went out to the ministry office for a little while. We're going to do some stenciling in there, and we're making our own stencils, so we needed to figure out what we wanted the stencils to say, the right size for the stencils, and print out what we're going to put on the stencil. We had a pretty great time, and I really needed to get out of the house....plus I got to put off Algebra II, which is just fine by me!

I can't believe how fast this week has flown by!!!! Its already Friday!! I'm still as motivated as ever to gain weight using the new plan, and I definitely think that I've been stressing out a whole lot less! Once again, my family is pretty stinkin' awesome and has been super supportive throughout this entire process!!!!! =D

I have absolutely no idea what we're going to be doing this weekend.....I think that there's something with the guys who are in our soccer project, but don't know if I'll go to that. What are your weekend plans?

Hope you have an awesome Friday!

Feelin' Strong!

Hey! Thanks for all of the wonderful comments about my weight-gain plan!!!! I love you guys! =D

Anyway, yesterday was fairly uneventful. As ya'll probably know, I'm homeschooled, and so is my sister. A couple of weeks ago, she was visiting some friends at our old school, and one of the school owners walked up to my mom and offered a free semester for my sister at the school! It wouldn't work for me because I'm in high school and am already preparing for American college, but my sister is not, and has really missed her friends. So, yesterday was her first day back! This semester she'll be doing both the homeschool curriculum and the brazilian, but next semester, she'll be a full-time student at the school! She had a great day yesterday and I'm sooo happy for her!!!!!! =D

Last night, we came up with what will probably find itself on our school-night dinner rotation. Mom bought some fresh, soft pita bread at the bakery down the street, and we made personal pita pizzas! I even  meant to take a picture, but by the time it came out of the oven, all I could think about was scarfing it down as fast as humanly possible!!! =P The beauty of it is that you could use whatever you happened to have in your fridge. We made some quick tomato sauce, chopped up onions, bell peppers, and a tomato, I roasted some zucchini, got out the mozzarella and lunchmeat. Mom, my sister and I each put our preferred toppings on the pitas, and stuck them in the oven for about 4 minutes. Sooo good and soooo easy!!!! My pita had zucchini, onion, bell pepper, tomato slices and turkey, topped with some mozzarella. I think it was gone in about 10 seconds!!!!!

Today, I'm going to do some strength training for my online PE course, and I'll be testing out a new ExerciseTV video. Here's the link:

http://www.exercisetv.tv/workout-videos/perfect-10-5724#

I have no idea whether or not this is a really good workout, but it looked like it was, and some of the exercises are a little different than usual ones, so I thought I'd try it out.

Other than that, all I have to do today is school, school, school. Which, you know, is suuuuuuper fun (heavy on the sarcasm =P). Actually, I don't mind school that much, its just that I don't actually leave the house very much at all. Except to go to the bakery.....or the grocery store. Yep, I definitely have an exciting life, folks. =P

I leave you all with this:

[caption id="attachment_354" align="alignnone" width="455" caption="What? You didn't know that books make great pillows?"][/caption]

Hope you have a great day!!!!

Back on Track

As you all could probably tell, the last couple of days have been pretty tough.

This morning, my mom and I really hashed things out, and we're coming up with a new-and-improved weight gain plan for me! I will reach my goal! Of course, there will still be days that are harder than others, but God has blessed me so much by giving me a wonderful, supportive family! =D

[caption id="attachment_348" align="alignnone" width="455" caption="I think I need to wash my hair....."][/caption]

In other news, the reason I'm so stanky looking in the above pic is because I got in a super-duper awesome workout today! whooo!!! =D Three random cardio videos that I found online mashed together gave me a great 30 minute workout! =D

Two of the vids are already in my cardio section, the 10-min jump rope and 10-min jump start. This third one is also from  SparkPeople, and its a 10 minute bootcamp video. Here's the link for ya:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eOdcFVrFSw&feature=channel

Anywho, I usually do a circuit workout and finish up with a 10 min video, but today I wanted a little something different! =D I looove circuit workouts because they combine strength training and cardio so well, but my muscles just weren't feelin' today!

Guess what else? I baked my first rolls yesterday! I got the recipe off of Allrecipes.com, but I can't find it today, so I'll just post what I used here:

Buttery Rolls

1 C hot water

2 T Butter

3 T Sugar

1 pack instant yeast

2 1/4 C flour

1 egg, beaten

1 tsp salt

Stir butter and sugar into hot water until the sugar has completely dissolved. Let water/butter mixture cool until lukewarm. Dissolve yeast into water/butter mixture. Stir in salt, egg and flour. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes. Spoon into 8 greased muffin tins. Let rise again until doubled, about 30 minutes. Bake in a 425 F oven 10-15 minutes or until done.

These were sooo good!!!! They're great for those who haven't made a lot of bread because they're pretty easy and the ingredients are simple. I have another roll recipe where if you beat the dough too much, you ruin the rolls. This dough is very sticky, but trust me, it works! =D

I still remember all of those other bread recipes on my list! I'll be getting to those very, very soon!!!! =D

What do you do to switch up your workout routine?

What food cravings do you get most often?

Personally, I crave a lot of chocolate, but not much else that's sweet. Other than that, its pretty much carbs all the way! =D And salt. I looove salt!

Hope you have a great day! =D

Mondays

Sorry for the pessimistic post yesterday! I was feeling super frustrated with everything going on and used my blog to rant and vent a little bit.

Today is a new day, and even though yesterday wasn't so good, I'm determined to turn everything around and get back on track!!!! I started today off with a huuuge bowl of oatmeal that I made with water, let sit in the fridge overnight, and added milk and microwaved this morning. Soooo creamy and good! =D I also added some honey for sweetness!!!!!

I'm actually taking PE through my homeschool program, so I've been doing strength training 3 days a week and cardio 2 days. This might be one of the reasons that I ended up losing some weight, so now I have to up my intake of food during the day! I'm trying to look for calorie-dense foods to eat instead of making a huuuuuuge plate of low-cal items. I find that if I consume smaller amounts of high-cal foods, I don't feel as bloated the next day, which in turn makes it a whole lot easier to eat the amount that I should be eating. What are some good, high-calorie, nutrient-dense foods????

I hope everyone had a great weekend!!!!! After our crazy morning, we stayed in last night and had some major relaxation time!! It was awesome! We watched Extraordinary Measures with Brendan Fraser and Harrison Ford! Its about a father who has two kids with Pompe, which is a genetic disease that kills kids before they reach 10 years of age. In order to find a cure for them, he teams up with a grumpy scientist who has done extensive research on Pompe. It was seriously good!!!! I almost cried a couple of times! =D

What is your faaavorite movie of all time??

I really liked this one, and Casablanca is definitely another favorite!

Well, I had better get going on my schoolwork!

Hope you all have an awesome Monday!

What a Morning!

Whew!

For our first full day back, nothing has gone quite as expected! First, we had no water. Then, we had no electricity. We ended up skipping breakfast and instead had a larger lunch. Oh and guess what? I lost another pound. Argh!!!!

Basically,a lot has happened today! I honestly am at a loss as to what I'm supposed to do in order to gain more weight! When we arrived here a month ago, I had gained 10lb during my stay in the States. I had 10 more lb to go in order to reach my target weight. Since then, I've lost 5 lb. Its so frustrating to me, and I would like to ask for ya'lls prayers during this time!

I did have an awesome time with my little sister last night! We rented a movie (Ghosts of Girlfriends Past), made popcorn, and had another girl's movie night!

I don't exactly know what we're planning on doing the rest of the day. Relax, most likely.

What have you been up to this weekend?

I'm Baaack

Hey everyone!!!!!!!

Sorry for the super long absence! Hope you all have been doing well! What have you been up to this week????

The conference went wonderfully!!!!! Everyone got to share about whats been going on in our different ministries, and I got to meet some other missionary kids!!!!!! It was so awesome because up until now, I hadn't met anyone my own age who was also a MK, so it was nice to be able to hang out with some over the week!!!!

We left the place where we were staying this morning at 2:30 AM, arrived at the airport at 4, and got on our first flight at about 5:15. We then spent about an hour and a half on the airplane, before getting off in Brasilia to wait for our second flight. We ended up getting home at about 11:30 this morning! We were all starving because the airline only gave us crackers and cookies for "breakfast" this morning at 6. My sister and I also had a light snack at the airport, but missing out on a good breakfast threw us all off in a major way! =D So, to remedy this situation, dad treated us to a yummy steak lunch!!!!!! We had steak with grilled onions and cheese on top, rice, black eyed peas, a cheese sauce thing, that brazilian pico that I showed ya'll last week, and fried mandioc root, which sort of tastes like yucca. Deeelish!!!!!!!! =D I know that last time we had steak, I promised to take a picture, but honestly I was too busy devouring my food! =( Guess that means I'll have to eat some steak again soon!!!!!

Now we're resting because we also didn't get a whole lot of sleep last night! Before I go, I just wanted to thank everyone for the feedback on the article. I truly believe everything I wrote, and I think that I'm definitely beginning to have a healthier relationship with food and with myself!!! =D Ya'll are awesome!!!!

See ya tomorrow!

Abandonment

Sorry that I haven't been able to post as much as I would have liked to this week!!!! The conference has been great, but we don't have internet access unless we make the trip into town. For now, I'll keep this post quick, but I should have a decent-sized post up on Friday or Saturday! Sorry for abandoning ya'll! =P

Anyway, I wrote this article for a class recently, and wanted to know what you think about it, so here it is:

What is True Wellness?

Written by Gennifer DeLille

Wellness is a very interesting subject. It doesn't necessarily mean “eat only non-processed foods” or “workout twice a day, every day”. Really, it's more about finding your individual balance in regards to fueling yourself and to exercise. We're all different, each one of us is a unique creation of God. There is no plan that works for every single one of us. We all need a different balance of nutrients in our diets and enjoy different activities. It is literally impossible to apply one person's “healthy lifestyle” to another person's. Some people feel their best on a vegetarian/vegan diet, some need to eat gluten-free foods, and some need higher-fat meals. Some of us are runners, others prefer team sports, and others enjoy yoga or Pilates. Wellness not only encompasses our diets or our exercise but also our mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. How then can there be a single plan that all of us should follow exactly?

I am considering becoming a personal trainer. Because of this, I've been doing a lot of research on the matter of wellness. Over some time, I've realized that what is trying to be sold as a “fitness plan” or a “diet that will change your life forever” isn't really the best way to achieve wellness. These plans are definitely helpful, especially when put together by professionals, but no single plan works for everyone. And, in my opinion, a life spent following a specific, inflexible workout/diet regime doesn't exactly sound like something that would bring about well-being. What do you enjoy doing? What are your favorite foods? What is your favorite way to get exercise? What makes you feel your best? Where is your balance? These are questions that we should ask ourselves more frequently, and are questions that I plan to ask of my future clients. When has denying yourself your favorite treat or forcing yourself to complete workouts that you hate on a daily basis ever brought wellness? I've been there, and still am tempted to go back at times. I can say, beyond a reasonable doubt, that what works for me will probably not work for you. We're all different, have different needs, and enjoy different things. I truly enjoy difficult cardiovascular workouts. Kickboxing and running are some of my favorite ways to get my exercise. I want to run half- and full-marathons someday. You may have no interest whatsoever in either of those things. So how can I say that my way is the best for everyone? My sister enjoys dancing. I can't dance without falling down at least once. Its what works for her, not for me. Find something that you want to do and I can guarantee that you'll enjoy exercise so much more than if you were being forced to do something.

As for nutrition, we all enjoy different foods. We all need some of each food group daily, but that doesn't mean that we have to eat the exact same things. Everyone needs different fuel. I love fruit and greens, in pretty much any shape or form. Huge salads, apples, plums, bananas, green monster smoothies (smoothie with spinach or kale blended in), kale chips and roasted vegetables are all things I love. I don't really have to work hard to get my fruit/veggie servings in every day. I actually probably have to work harder at getting my protein and fats. This is something that I know about myself, and I sometimes have to make a conscious effort to not fill my plate up with salad, but to add some meat as well. I love whole-grains, and could probably eat rice and beans on a daily basis, but I have to make sure that I have better-rounded meals so that I feel my best. I may have to work at eating a lot of meat, but I definitely feel better when I do. It is all about balance. We really do feel our best when we include some of every food group into our daily meals. Everyone has different areas that they need to work on nutrition-wise, and enjoying vegetables more than most people doesn't make me any better than them. Once again, we're all different. We operate best on well-rounded meals, because our bodies need nutrients from each of the food groups. Its amazing how much better we feel on days when we're fueling ourselves properly. Also, to “fuel yourself properly” doesn't mean to never again eat foods labeled as “fattening”. This is another difficult area for me personally. Honestly though, how can we call a meal plan without our favorite indulgences a “wellness plan”? Flexibility is also an important part of our well-being.

Wellness isn't only about how we exercise or what we eat. It also involves our emotional and spiritual sides. If we eat well, but have a negative self image, that's not wellness. If we neglect our walk with God, we won't have wellness regardless of whether or not we're doing exercise activities that we enjoy. When we aren't fueling ourselves well, it is even harder to focus on life and we feel physically weak, and maybe even spiritually weak. Exercising can improve so many of our physical conditions, and sometimes, even improve our self image. Our walk with God, our nutrition, exercise and our emotions are all fundamental to our well-being. We need to nourish each one of these aspects. If even one of these areas is lacking, it will most definitely affect every single one of the others. I've been there, and I know what I'm talking about. Not only will we feel worse, we'll make those around us feel worse. Wellness is not about following strict diet plans or exercise regimes, its about us nourishing every aspect of ourselves, from our nourishment and exercise to our Christian lives and our emotions. Wellness is brought about by balance, and because we're all different, we need to work on different things so that we can feel our personal best.

Sorry for the long-ish and impersonal post.....=P

How have ya'll been this week?????

Gotta run! See ya soon!!! =D

Sooo, I wanted to go ahead and wish Janae a happy early birthday!! I looove your blog and you've been a great inspiration to me these past couple of months, girl! =D

Guess who else has a birthday this week?

Sick Day and Double Recipes

Sorry about yesterday's uber-random post.....I was fueled by Allegra and Benadryl while writing it. The past couple of day's I've had a sore throat, but yesterday it developed into a full-on cold. Fun stuff. Again, I apologize and hope I didn't scare anyone away with my random musings! =D

I am making up for it today though. I've got two awesome recipes!!! One's so easy that I don't really even think it should be qualified as a recipe, but we love it!

Here ya go:

1. Brazilian (non-spicy) Pico

3/4 bell pepper

1/2-1 whole onion

1 small or 1/2 large tomato

Small bunch of fresh cilantro

Dice bell pepper and onion very finely. Cut tomato, remove pulp and chop finely as well. Remove the stems from the cilantro and roughly chop. Combine all the veggies! If you want, you can add some lemon or a good vinegar for a little extra flavor! We use this on rice and beans, in sandwiches, and basically with anything that could use a little veggie love! =D

[caption id="attachment_325" align="alignnone" width="455" caption="Bell pepper and 'Mater"][/caption]

I chop the bell pepper and tomato, and my sister chops the onion and cilantro! What a great team, huh? =D

Now, for the second recipe. Its not remotely healthy so if you're looking for something "light", this is not it. But I'm told they taste really awesome! The only reason I haven't tried one yet is because I can't swallow water without choking so I thought I'd wait a little while before eating a baked good.

Doughnut Muffins (adapted from How to-Simplify)

Ingredients:

For the muffins:

  • 1 3/4 cup flour

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/3 cup oil

  • 3/4 cup sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 3/4 cup milk

For the coating:

  • 1/4 -1/2 cup butter, melted

  • 1/3 cup sugar

  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a muffin tin.

  2. Combine flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon in a medium bowl.

  3. Combine oil, sugar, egg and milk in a large bowl. Add dry ingredients and stir only to combine.

  4. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes. While muffins are baking, melt butter in a small bowl. In another small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon.

  5. Shake muffins out of the muffin tin while the muffins are still hot.

  6. Dip muffins in the melted butter and then into the sugar and cinnamon mixture. Place on a wire rack and allow to cool.

[caption id="attachment_326" align="alignnone" width="455" caption="Muffins! =D"][/caption]

In case you can't tell, I didn't just dip these into the sugar+cinnamon mixture, I rolled them in it! =D Yum!!!!

Oh and there's something I should tell ya'll. Tomorrow we're going out of town for a mission conference. I'll be gone all week and don't know how often I'll have internet access. I'll definitely pre-write some posts, but please, please don't be offended if it seems like I disappear for a while! =D

That's all for today!

Off to do some studying! =Dr

Girl Night!!!!

My sister and I are havin' a girl's night at home!!!! Whooo! We rented a girly movie (When in Rome) and I'm making popcorn!! Sooo excited! It makes it that much harder to sit through my classwork all day long, though....=P I do happen to have 4 tests this week, so I should probably start studying soon.

So today I did the FitSugar circuit workout that kicked my butt last week! Guess what? It kicked my butt again. =D In a good way though. I hate strength training so circuits work really work for me and my ADD, strength training hating self.

The other day, my family was talking about all the random times that I've fallen down and busted something (yes, its happened enough to fuel an entire conversation). I have matching knee scars. One is from when I fell in some wet cement at a construction site, right when all the construction workers were leaving, so there were at least 20 of them standing right there. The other is from when I tripped and fell on the sidewalk while walking with my dad. I also have jammed a pencil through a pair of jeans into my knee and have a tiny lead spot there. Oh and I ran into a pay phone. Not fun. Anyway, all of these accidents come from me not paying attention to my surroundings....and I have some pretty cool/funny stories to tell now! There was a time when I probably would have gotten super-embarrassed if anyone mentioned my numerous falls, but as a part of "letting go" and being comfortable with who I am, klutziness and all, I can laugh at them now. =D

What something that you've learned to laugh at about yourself or about something that's happened to you?

Oh I sort of fixed my protein powder problem. I made banana soft serve and mixed in the powder so that I wouldn't be drinking it and it wouldn't taste as grainy. Strawberry Banana Soft Serve is pretty tasty, if you ask me! =D

Well, sorry for what has got to be the most random post ever.....just a little info about me! =P

See ya tomorrow!

Revisiting Some Old Friends

Hey everyone!!!!!

First off, I tried a new granola bar right now! Its watermelon and lemon flavored and tastes like summer!!!!

Its light so I paired it with a cup of yummy fruit salad yogurt for my morning snack! So good!! =D

This morning I also visited my old school friends. I found out when their break was and walked over. It was so great to see everyone and I can't wait to visit again!!!!! I think that being around other people keeps me from worrying about everything else so much. One of the downsides to homeschooling is that I don't get out as much, which normally, is just fine by me. =P I did miss seeing people my age though, so I'll definitely be visiting my school again soon!!!!

Thank you all so much for your supportive comments on yesterday's post! I love you guys! =D It helps so much to know that ya'll are supporting my as well as my awesome family!!!! =D I do have a protein powder related question or two:

Is there a way to make it dissolve better? When I mixed mine up in the smoothie, it was super-grainy. The flavor was great, though, so I was wondering if the graininess was due to something that I did wrong or  if that's just a side-effect of protein powders.

Also, what are some good protein powder recipes for one? I am really trying to supplement my diet, so that I get all of the minerals and vitamins that I need, and I was wondering what other ways there are to use my protein besides just smoothies. Its strawberry flavored, by the way.

In keeping with the treat yourself generously theme of the week, I'd say that today, my treat was spending time with friends that I haven't seen in at least 6 months. =D What about you?

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

When at First you don't Succeed....

...try, try again. I weighed myself yesterday. Nothing. Didn't gain, didn't lose either. I'm a little dissapointed in myself......and I honestly have no idea how to add in more calories. I haven't been keeping a close count, but at the end of every day I've felt superfull and even kinda bloated. So, in an effort to add calories to my smoothies, my mom suggested that I buy a protein powder or something similar. So, I got a strawberry flavored one, and had my first banana-strawberry protein shake today!

I was definitely upset about the lack of progress, but I know that God has a plan for me and that I will get through this!!!!

In other news, dinner was fabulous! We had some teriyaki chicken, rice, pasta, and stir-fried veggies!!!!! So yummy!!!!! For the veggies, I chopped up a monster zucchini(it yielded over two cups when chopped!!!!), some onion, carrot, and bell pepper. Then, I sauteed the zucchini and carrots in some oil and soy sauce until almost done, and added the bell pepper and onion with some more soy sauce and cooked until all of the veggies were done! So tasty and good on sandwiches, too! =D

What did you guys think of Lindsay's guest post yesterday? I thought it was pretty awesome! Aren't those phrases great? Itreated myself generously yesterday by not letting my disappointment ruin my day and by spending some time just relaxing and giving myself a quick break from stress!!!

Did you do anything yesterday to treat yourself?

Hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday!!!!!!!

Happy Monday!

I haven't weighed in yet, so I'll post the results of that tomorrow!

Hope everyone had a great weekend and a good time watching the Super Bowl, if you did! =D

Today, I have a super special guest post for you all!!!! Lindsay from Cotter Crunch wrote it, and I have to say, its awesome!!!!

Here ya go:

Hey there Lovely Healthy Chocoholic Readers! I hope you are all staying warm and enjoying the day. I know Gen is since her season in Brazil is opposite ours right now!

Anyway, when Gen asked me to write a guest post for her I was thrilled. Actually, first I was honored and then I was thrilled. I just love this girl and her positive outlook on life! It’s great to be a part of it in some way. In order to keep that same perspective, I thought I’d talk a little bit about how self esteem can bring great joy to your life.

You see, as you age, you start to really discover who you are. You can either embrace that or reject that. I know we see a lot of young women today who are afraid of being themselves for fear of rejection. Well, let me just tell you, rejection is just God’s way of saying “you don’t need anyone else’s approval but mine!” Wow, that can be hard to hear, but it’s the truth. And you know what, God loves you despite your flaws. Heck, he’s the one that gave those flaws in order to make you UNIQUE. Now I realize that some people do not believe in God, but look at the bigger picture here. You are who you are for a reason, embrace it, love it, and enjoy it!

Let’s start with this week.

Treat Yourself ~ Generously

Treat yourself with good nourishing food, treat yourself with daily walks or exercise, treat yourself with the things you love to do, like cooking, taking pictures, or baking. I think I’ll go first. Grab a spatula!

Cheers to YOU!

Wasn't that awesome?

What are ways that you can treat yourself generously this week?

I plan on fueling myself with good, nutritious, delicious food and also indulging with my family!

Hope you have a great Monday!

Super Bowl Buddies

Today's post is super late and will be super short. =P

We're hanging out today, and Dad's going to plug up the projector later on to watch the Super Bowl!

We started the day off right with french toast with lemon juice and sugar on it. Are we the only family that eats their french toast like that???? I honestly didn't know that you could eat french toast any other way until I was at least 12!!!!

Anyway, in preparation for the Super Bowl my dad and cat are watching a soccer match. Yes, my cat is watching it! Here's some proof:

Hope you all have a great day!!!!

Oh and tomorrow be on the look out for a super special guest post!!!!! =D

I Bought Chocolate!

Sorry for the late post!

We've been mostly hanging out this morning! =D My sister was meeting up with a friend earlier and while mom walked her to her friend's house, I went and bought myself a brand-new bar of chocolate! Whoo! =D I was needing some!

Its white chocolate on the outside and milk on the inside! Yum! =D

Oh and in other news, our car broke yesterday. Apparently we repel technology or something. And because its the weekend, the part needed to fix the car will only get here on Monday, so we're basically on house arrest unless we walk places! =D

How's your weekend going so far?

I'm a Crazy Person

At least that seems to be the general opinion of me. =P

Here's an example:

Our fridge was fixed yesterday, and last night, the power went out. The only thing running through my mind was: "Oh crap. We just got everything back in the fridge and now the power's out! How am I going to make smoothies?".So I proceeded to jump out of bed (I sleep on the top bunk in my sister's room because she has an air conditioning unit and my room does not) go out in the hallway and stand there because I realize that there's nothing I can do about it. The power did come back on eventually though, and my smoothie bananas are frozen! =P

This morning has been full of this:

[caption id="attachment_294" align="alignnone" width="455" caption="Algebra!"][/caption]

Because I didn't understand my crappy algebra book, and needed my dad's assistance, I started on my Algebra at 8 AM. Which is early for homeschool. Now I'm supposedly writing a US History essay (I really am, just took a quick break! =P). And to top it all off, guess who's asleep about 2 feet away from me? Him:

[caption id="attachment_295" align="alignnone" width="455" caption="He's got a hard life. "][/caption]

Its been a hard day's work for this critter. He woke up, had an extra-large Friday breakfast, bit me, and went to sleep. He's exhausted. =P

Oh and another reason I'm crazy? I can't wait to finish school so that I can get into the kitchen and bake something!!! =D

Honestly, though, I'd much rather be me and slightly crazy than be a normal person.I have lots of fun!!! =D

How's your friday going?

What's a characteristic that makes you different (in a good way, of course =D)?

Well, I love to bake. I'm pretty sure my whole family appreciates that one! =P

Also, I love to wake up early and get stuff done, which helps me not feel overwhelmed.

TGIF!!!!

I Improvised

This morning, I decided to do the second circuit workout. I've done it before, but I was working out in my parents'  room and had access to a stool to do the step-ups. Today, I chose to do it in my room and had no such thing. So what did I do? I improvised. Here's what I came up with:

Yup! Its a bunch of my books stacked on top of each other! I actually probably got a bit of a core workout, since I was trying to balance myself on my "step"! =P I did get a pretty great workout in, though!!!!

Here's a cool tradition of ours. Every year that I've been in school, my mom has saved a yearbook picture, and we have this frame with a slot for each year.

So now I have all of my school pictures together!!! Isn't it neat? My sister has one, too!!!!

Well, hopefully someone will be coming to actually fix the fridge this afternoon. The repairman came yesterday to figure out the problem but couldn't actually fix it because he needed to go back to the office, figure out the cost, and we had to approve it yesterday. My mom wasn't here when they called with the price, but I was instructed to approve WHATEVER they asked of us! =P

I'm hoping that the repairman comes early so that I can bake later on! We've been having the same thing for breakfast the past couple of days and I really want to get in the kitchen. With my mom's approval, of course. =P Not complaining about the breakfasts....we have fresh, homemade bread every day from our local bread store. It is sooooo good!!!!! Sort of looks like a mini french loaf, but tastes sweeter. And its not like I don't get in breakfast ruts anyway. Oats and grits! =D

What's your favorite thing to have for breakfast?

We're going to church tonight and I'm already thinking about what to wear. Only doing this because I usually wear gym clothes.....sometimes I'll even sleep in them so that I can get up and get my day started! =P I'm actually going to have to wear jeans! hahahahahahaha

Do you have a go-to outfit?

Well, I do have some school to do, so I guess this is it for today! =D

Running Around

First of all, Happy Groundhog Day! =D

Yesterday we did a LOT of running around. You see, when you go to downtown Recife, you have to go to at least 10 different stores to find what you're looking for! =D So we ended up spending the entire afternoon out! It was fun, but we were STARVING when we got home! So we got a quick bite to eat out, and then dad took us to the acai place again! I even brought my camera, but forgot to take pictures. =( Sorry!!!!!

To make up for it, here's a pic of my cat:

[caption id="attachment_286" align="alignnone" width="455" caption="What? You didn't get me any acai?"][/caption]

So today, I don't even have a lot of school to do, which is super nice! =D All I really have left to do is work on my webpage design project, read Act IV of Julius Caesar and do an Algebra II lesson. Technically I'm supposed to have Algebra every day of the week, but I've got it worked out to where I take mondays off, do an Algebra lesson on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, study and do any extra work on Friday and then take the test! What can I say, I'm the queen of procrastination! =D

Oddly enough, our fridge started back up and the little red alarm light went off last night, but we're still having someone come look at it, because who knows how long it'll keep working.

In a little while, mom and I are heading to the grocery store because I am out of snacks and if I don't have something to eat later on the world as we know it will end! Just kidding, but we really do need some stuff. I tag along because I can be helpful if I set my mind to it! =D We can walk to the store, and take a cab back if we have a lot of groceries. Of course, being in Brazil, our grocery store doesn't always have everything we're looking for. Like ground beef. or vanilla extract. or powdered sugar. We've had to make our own powdered sugar in the food processor because we made cinnamon rolls and needed glaze for them. =D It was like a science experiment!!!! And tasty, too!

How has your week been going so far?

What's your favorite way to wind down after a super long day?

No cooking + giant fruit salad + family time= relaxation!!!! =D

Is there anything that you HAVE to have every day or you'll miss it?

Chocolate. And snacks every two hours! Otherwise I turn into a grump! =D

Hope you have a great Wednesday!!!!
